Brand guidelines

Our logo

Our logo is one of the main graphic elements which give the British Council its unique identity. Our logo is confident, clear and authoritative.

There are four versions of the logo; known as corporate (preferred), positive (black), negative (white) and PMS 295 version. They are all available for download.

Corporate logo/Preferred logo

The Corporate version is mandatory on all our letterheads, business cards and compliment slips. In all other applications this is our preferred version.

Symbol and name

The logo is made up of two components, which should never be separated: the symbol and the name.

Favicon

The only exception for when the symbol and name are separated is when they are used as a favicon on the web.

Do not redraw the logo

The logo should always be reproduced from the master artwork and must never be redrawn.

The logo must never be distorted or altered, have information removed from or added to it, be trimmed, cropped or bled off the edge of the page, contained within a box, or be positioned at an angle. The name should not be redrawn, re-spaced or modified.

The logo on this door has been redrawn and does not use the original artwork. Note the misaligned letters and how the shapes of individual letters differ from the correct logo. The circles of the symbol are also further apart than normal.
